With our partner universities, we offer a range of pathway programmes, depending on whether you want to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. The pathway programmes lead a diverse set of degrees.
Undergraduate
The International Foundation Year is a one-year undergraduate pathway programme. It designed to boost your English language and academic skills to the required level for entry to the first year of your degree.
The International Year One prepares students for entry into the second year of an undergraduate degree. Equivalent to the first year of your degree, this programme enables you to complete your undergraduate degree in the standard three years. You will improve your academic and English language skills in a supportive environment.
In Scotland, the International Year Two is equivalent to the second year of your undergraduate degree, the International Year Two allows you to complete your degree at a Scottish university in three years, if you have already achieved a higher level of academic achievement in your home country. Your time at the International Study Centre will be used to build upon your academic, study and English language skills before progressing to university.
Postgraduate
The Pre-Masters Programme prepares you for your chosen postgraduate degree. You will study subject content as well as English, so that you can begin your degree with confidence.
English Language Preparation
The English Language Preparation programme is ideal if you need to improve your English language to reach the required level for your programme at the International Study Centre. Available for students wishing to study the International Foundation Year, International Year One, and Pre-Masters Programme, these intensive programmes will boost your English language in under one term.
You will need to meet certain English language and academic entry requirements to study abroad. If you need to improve your English language level prior to studying a pathway programme with us, you can enrol on our English Language Preparation programme.
You will benefit from early exposure to university-style teaching. Our programmes will introduce you to the type of tuition and learning formats that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. This includes a tailor-made curriculum delivered through a mixture of tutorials, seminar-style classes and large group lectures.
Accommodation
You can choose from a range of university accommodation usually on campus. You can also arrange your own private accommodation, but you must live within an hour’s commute of the university.
You can book your accommodation once you have accepted your offer of a place and paid your confirmation payment.
Visas
You will need a Student visa to study in the UK. You can find out more information on gov.uk.
You will need an F-1 visa to study in the USA. You can find out more on usa.gov.
You will need a study visa to study in Ireland. You can find out more on irishimmigration.ie.
You can apply for a UK visa up to three months before the start date of your programme. Make sure to start your application early, so there is enough time for it to be processed before you need to travel to the UK.

If you are studying in Ireland, you should apply for your visa as early as possible to make sure there is enough time for it to be processed. This normally takes eight weeks but can take longer in busy periods.
