Omar wants to make sure AI is a force for good.
Omar from Jordan studied at the University of Sussex, UK.
“I wanted to learn more and help steer AI towards a better future,” he explains.
Omar hopes to bring more knowledge of computer science and AI back to the Middle East. “I'd like to introduce [computer science and AI] to the region so people can get involved in computer science," he shares. His ultimate goal? Making access to innovative education easier. “I'd really like to work in education. I've been receiving such a great experience here that I want to replicate it and perhaps open a university or an institution that teaches computer science and AI.”
Asma designs buildings with sustainability in mind.
Asma from Algeria studied at the University of Strathclyde, UK.
“Architecture isn't just about constructing buildings; it's about capturing the essence of art and culture," she reflects.
During her time at the University of Strathclyde, Asma started to focus on minimising CO2 emissions through sustainable design. "In Glasgow, each place has a different character, and exploring these differences has been key to my growth as an architect,” she explains. “I need to create something which doesn’t harm the world… I need to be careful with every element so that when you go to the space, you enjoy it.”
Laura was looking for experience in the music industry.
Laura from Hungary studied at Long Island University, USA.
"Roc Nation is a label owned by Jay-Z. Both the connections and the realness of the business... I can feel it here in the school," she explains. Through pursuing dual degrees in marketing and music technology, entrepreneurship, and production, Laura’s been able to focus on her passion – singer-songwriting.
“I really like it here because it's more focused on assignments, more focused on using what you study in class and what you learn than just the knowledge… I had an internship for the summer, as a public relations intern. It was useful for the music aspect of my studies because it's always important to know how to market yourself.”
Theresa found a gap in the market and started her own brand.
Theresa from Nigeria studied at the University of Surrey, UK.
During Theresa's studies in electronic engineering and communication systems she completed a placement year at O2 Telefonica. "It was one of the best decisions for my career, giving me real insight into life as an engineer," she says.
Theresa went on to launch Hamalie, an e-commerce platform for African brands. “We connect global customers to really unique, sustainable African goods.” She explains. “My experience in a UK university has definitely influenced what I'm doing today.”
Achuth pursued his interest in technology from a young age.
Achuth from India studied at Teesside University, UK.
As a child, Achuth impressed his family by fixing his computer. “After that, all my neighbours, when they had anything wrong with their PC or their cell phone, they would come to me.” He remembers.
Achuth decided to study at Teesside University because of its strong industry connections with Apple, Microsoft, and Adobe. "The opportunity to gain internships with these companies is something that really stood out to me," Achuth explains. “I've pretty much made friends from all over the world.”
After his International Foundation Year, Achuth would like to continue his studies to masters level in artificial intelligence or data science.
Frequent travels sparked Harald’s interest in aviation.
Harald from Hong Kong studied at the University of Sheffield, UK.
During his aerospace engineering degree, Harald immersed himself in hands-on projects, building drones and designing wings.
"The practical projects were invaluable. Working on these teams taught me not just engineering skills, but also how to collaborate and manage complex tasks," he explains. One of Harald's most unforgettable experiences was earning his pilot license during his final year. "Flying a plane for the first time was surreal. It's a completely different experience when you're the one in control.”
Now, Harald works as an assistant satellite operation engineer in Hong Kong. He remains focused on his goal: becoming a commercial airline pilot.
